In a week dominated by To Jazz and Luminato it was tough to capture a music fan’s attention in the GTA, but Kevin Breit and Rebecca Jenkins (along with the Upper York Mandolin Orchestra*) managed to do so, entertaining a sold out audience with songs from their new CD, Ernesto and Delilah at Hugh’s last week.
The CD, inspired by the life and tragic death of Brazilian composer Ernesto Ciari has been a labour of love for mandolin lover Breit but the results are well worth the effort. The arrangements (showcasing Breit’s play on the mandocello) are tight, the band (mainly all stars of the Toronto bluegrass scene) were superb, and the stage dynamic between Jenkins and Breit is obvious and entertaining. I’ve posted three songs from the show. Enjoy. Share.
*The Upper York Mandolin Orchestra are Jesse Cobb, Adrian Gross, Rebecca Jenkins, Kevin Breit, Andrew Collins, Colin Couch on tuba and David DiRenzo percussion.
