Kunle, Live @ The Painted Lady, September 30th-2015

Had the pleasure of seeing Nigerian singer-songwriter Kunle showcase songs from his new EP “Ami n Rele” at the Painted Lady last week. Mr. Kunle possesses those rare traits that are extremely admirable in any musician: presence, talent, and personality. I have put together a mini concert of three songs that display the range of his talents. : Stand by You, Pot Calling the Kettle Black, and My Little Fingers.

My Little Fingers, is an instrumental piece that was awarded “Best Instrumental” in Folk Music Ontario’s 2015 Songs from The Heart competition. The song was a pointed response to a critical aunt who had told Kunle to stop in his musical pursuits because his hands were too small. The piece, a wonderful melody- reminiscent of Michael Hedges – is living testament to sticking to your guns. Definitely worth checking out next time he plays live. While you’re waiting, check out his ep on Soundcloud.
